Theron Alessandri's POV, in Dungeons / Potions Class to tutor Caitlin McNamara
"When two people are at one in their inmost hearts, they shatter even the strength of iron or bronze; and when two people understand each other in their inmost hearts, their words are sweet and strong like the fragrance of orchids," quoted from I Ching.
When he first met Caitlin he was intimidated. She was confident when interacting with the Professors and Instructors. She never seemed to interact much with fellow students, even in her own House. Theron suspects now that it is a lack of confidence she feels among her peers. He used to think Caitlin thought she was better than the rest of the student populace. The reality is that she doesn't seem to know how to talk to anyone that isn't an adult. He had decided that what he had perceived as aloofness was, in fact, shyness.
It started as a social experiment for him. It was a the beginning of a long day for Theron when he decided that he would try to keep this situation from harming him. He could have played role of a stereotypical Slytherin. It would mean never letting the Ravenclaw really see him for who he is. That would have hurt his sense of self and it would have been a lie. Lying can be useful, but it isn't necessarily attractive to him. He would admit that a bit of it was his stubbornness. He resented the idea of having to adapt his beliefs, or even pretend to adapt his beliefs, for the sake of anyone else.
"I don't give a shit that her parents are Muggles," Theron thought out loud. He let his head fall back, pushing back his black hair with both hands. He hadn't done anything special to it today; he wasn't pretending for anyone and he wasn't trying to look particularly sinister today. He knew the girl, Caitlin McNamara, had needed a tutor for potions and the professor had amused himself by volunteering Theron for the job. Theron was good in potions. It may not have made a difference to him what her family tree looked like but that wasn't something he wanted the rest of his Slytherin "comrades" to know.
He glanced around, but Caitlin still hadn't arrived and the Professor wasn't paying him any attention. Theron picked up the staff off the table. It had scroll style staff made of blackthorn wood wrapped with black wrought iron. The handle was sterling silver with a black stone, obsidian probably, he thought. The handle was hollow with a compartment fitted for his flute. The ring around the staff was engraved with his initials TAA and the image of an eagle. He took his flute out of the secret compartment.
He began to play, hoping it would help pass the time. Caitlin wasn't late; Theron had been early to get the equipment they would need for practice set up before she got here. Caitlin was alright at the textbook part of Potions. Her practical applications and ability to think of the right answer on the spot was what needed work.

Caitlin's POV
Caitlin hugged her Potions books to her as she rushed through the Dungeons to her tutoring lesson. She wasn't late, yet, but was worried she would be late if she didn't hurry. She'd had to go look for her textbook; after her last assignment she'd left it out instead of putting it back with the rest of the things. The house elves neatened her mess, organized her papers, and so forth but they had not packed everything up and put it away. They weren't supposed to disturb her books when she was in the middle of a project, she'd told them so herself.
As Caitlin neared the classroom she heard the melodic notes of a flute. She didn't really know much about classical music but it sounded fantastic. She slowed down, her ear tuning in to the sound and her mind following the song. The time was forgotten as she moved towards the class at a considerably slower rate.
It was a peppy little tune. Caitlin peered around the threshold and into the class to see the Slytherin boy, Theron Alessandri, playing a merry little tune in the dungeons of Hogwarts. How very odd.
Theron was dressed in his Quidditch uniform, he must have been planning to go straight to practice after this practice session.

Theron felt another person's gaze on him. He opened his eyes, but his music never stopped. He kept the gold engraved lip plate just below his lower lip, his lips pursed, and his posture perfect. His flute was a professional, French-style open-hole flute for an experienced and careful player.
He watched Caitlin with heavy-lidded eyes while his nimble fingers played the silver Gemeinhardt. She was his idea of Ravenclaw, just as much the epitome of her House as Rowena Ravenclaw. Golden hair on blue-black robes suits a Ravenclaw lady just fine, he thought, those grey eyes, however, they might be more suited to another House completely.
