Welcome to Gringotts! Here you will find that fortune, if not glory, can be yours. The following is a break-down of the bank, not only in how it operates, but also in how you can participate and spend what you have earned. Sometimes, you can earn money without even trying, and other times, you must try very hard. Your rewards can be rich, if you desire them, and appropriately, we've got it all organized for you. If you have any questions about anything, please PM Ron or Rita; we will be able to help you figure out whatever it is you need. Contents

Conversion of the monies
1 Galleon = 17 Sickles = 493 Knuts 1 Sickle = 29 Knuts 1 karma = 5 sickles [/center] Please remember that you change your karma points into money by filling out the money processing form here. Don't be alarmed that is also the form to spend money; it's a general form to help us process a personal request for addition or subtraction to your account.

Ways to earn money:Adults can only earn money through posting; this applies to every adult, employed or unemployed, though the amount earned changes depending on job status. Students may only earn money through posts unless they have a job. Only when they are posting for their job do they earn money, so posting in the school does not count as a 'job' unless you are working at the school. Students are not permitted to earn money through posts.Monies:1 Galleon = 17 Sickles = 493 KnutsEmployed Character: 10 Sickles per post * Jobless Character: 5 Sickles per post Employed Students: 5 Sickles per post +Karma Points: +/- 5 Sickles Posting breakthroughs: See below.* Professors at Hogwarts will receive a 20 Galleon salary for their teachings (one class thread a month), plus 10 Galleons if they so choose to take on a club. They will also receive 3 Sickles per post. This is lower than other employed adults because post counts for the salary are not counted, so a four-post class could earn 20 Galleons, where it would have otherwise earned 2. + Students who are employed earn money for every post, as though they were an adult. However, it is not the same amount as an adult because they are students. Since it's not known how many students are canonically employed, few students will be given employment for the full year; most students can expect to be employed over the summer months in the RP only. All students can still earn money through Karma. Please see below. Karma PointsThese can be for and against your advantage. These are awarded by your fellow members or for winning staff-run competitions. + Karma can be turned into money. - Karma will mean money is deducted from you. Please note, while students can't earn money unless they have a job, karma can and will count as valid money. Students also may not earn money through posting, though they may earn money through karma, which can be converted by posting in the claim thread, where you may exchange money for rewards. See below for how-to. Points:Points can be earned in several ways. In character. If you do a good deed or a bad deed in character, you can receive points or have them taken away. These will be passed out by Prefects, Heads of Houses, and staff members. Competitions. If you are the winner of a staff-run competition, you can earn points and karma. Remember, karma does equal money, so you might want to pull for those karma points. Posting breakthroughs. When you reach a certain number of posts, your character's house or pocketbook will be rewarded. Each level will earn your house that number of points or your account that many monies, so you have the chance of making up to 35 points or 2 Galleons if you make 200 posts, etc. While students earn house points, adults earn money. Students cannot receive Sickles or Galleons50 posts = 5 points or 5 Sickles100 posts = 10 points or 10 Sickles200 posts = 20 points or 2 Galleons300 posts = 50 points or 5 Galleons400 posts = 75 points or 8 Galleons500 posts = 100 points or 10 Galleons1000 posts = 150 points or 20 GalleonsFor a list of the Posting Breakthroughs, please see the Bank Roll. It will list points and monies earned by date.

Ways to spend/lose money:Money can buy you many things here at H&H. The following is a list of basics that you can buy, which should be noted when you post to purchase something. All purchases must be made in the Bank Roll; that is where all monies are added and subtracted. You will find the appropriate forms there. Please note that you cannot purchase anything if you do not have the correct amount for it. This means, if you don't have 100 Galleons, you can't buy a house, even if you're half-way there. - Karma. - 5 Sickles & 5 Knuts You can trade money for Karma, but it will cost you more to take Karma than to trade it in. Fill out the form requesting how many Karma you would like.
- Graphics. - Varies. Sets 10 Galleons, Banner 5 Galleons, Avatar Group 2 Galleons and 10 Sickles, Single Avatar 1 Galleon. These will be made especially by Ron or Rita, and will be filled sooner than a graphic request, which is usually on an as-posted basis. Fill out the form asking which you would like.
- Custom Title. - 20 Galleons If you would like something added to your custom title other than your year or job, think of something clever and fill out the form. The staff will add it in for you.
- House Board. - 75 Galleons If you would like a home for your character to RP in, write a short description and fill out the form. The staff will create a house for you in the England boards.
- About You Thread. - 100 Galleons This will highlight you and your characters, and be an interview of sorts between you and the staff, and you will be featured for a whole month in the side bar, as well as have an announcement about it. You can also buy one for another member, if you would like to see them put up for an 'About You' thread. Say who in your form.
Of course, there are some things that you can buy that require a little more explanation. Those things are detailed below, and if you have any questions on them, please feel free to ask about it. BattlingBefore, battling was about who sent the most money to the admin to see who won. That worked in some instances, but hasn't really gone over so well. Usually if there is a fight or duel the players will work it out on their own as to who will win, since it also affects the plot. However, since there will be a dueling club opening soon, it will be helpful to those just wanting to play a quick game and not care the outcome, and really leaving it to chance to have a system of fair fights. Those in the fight who wish to see themselves win in a fight will PM a 'bet' to the Head Staff. Of course, this will be both sides; if you duel you should be sending an amount to the main staff, with the title of 'Duel' as the headlines, an amount and link to your thread in the PM. Whoever puts up the most amount of money will win the fight as esteemed by the admin, but if the other person puts up a fair amount as well, then they will not lose so badly, a sort of consolation in character, as it were. The greater the difference in the amount of money put up, the more likely the loser is to be sorely beaten. All monies put toward winning a fight will be considered dissolved, in that neither parties will receive a sum at the end. This is the risk of a duel, in that you're gambling whether or not to win. It is allowable to ask for other people for monetary help, but they must be present in the RP for the fight. This means that if someone wants to see another player win, then they must post at least once in the duel thread. All bets must be placed through PM.For example, if Harry was going to battle or duel Draco, he would send an amount of money to the staff. Draco would have the same opportunity to do the same. Whoever put the most money toward winning would essentially have the ability to God-mode the outcome of the battle, though not God-mode the characters. If Harry bet 20 Galleons and Draco only 2, then Harry would not only win, but stomp on Draco. However, if Draco were to put in 15 Galleons, he would have not lost so poorly, but rather, just ran away from the fight, or gotten scratched and fainted, or something of the like. If Ron wanted to see Draco get stomped as well, he could add money to Harry's side of the bet, and he would have to be present in the thread where the fight is taking place. While not exactly having to participate, the characters who help others win fight do need to be there when the fights go down, as it were. Shop ItemsWhen you buy shop items, they can give you abilities or advantages that you would not normally be allowed to have in character. For example, say you bought a Puking Pastille from Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes. You could be in a thread of class, eat it, and then be excused from the thread, when you would not have otherwise been sick. You'll have to see the various shop items lists (provided by the owners or operators of the shops) to see the prices and uses of the items. You will more than likely need to post in those shops in order to claim the items. Since there aren't many actual shops open here at H&H (which will hopefully happen with encouragement), a link to all the shops where you may actually purchase something will be listed.
