General Description: Theron has black hair, olive skin tone, and green eyes that are so pale they are often mistaken for gray. "His clear green eyes were like glass." "...half expected to see a reflection in those eyes." His eyes are from his German ancestor on his mother's side but the rest of his features and physique are mostly from Greece and his home country of Italy. His eyebrows are thick and dark, heavy and sharp. His eyelashes are long and curly and his nose is high and straight. He has strong cheekbones and thin lips. He wears his black hair short. He makes it slick and tight to his head for formal events and dressed up occasions. He thinks it makes him look sinister and regal, very Slytherin. In more casual settings, like flying, playing Quidditch, and especially in the Netherlands with his mother, he doesn't do anything special to his hair.
Personality.
Likes && Dislikes: He is fond of the flute; he doesn't care to play the violin. He loves music and theater. He likes Quidditch and would like to play someday, especially as a Seeker. He likes to read, particularly Muggle fantasy and wizarding fiction. He likes travel books and books by explorers. He enjoys books about magical creatures from the wizards that have encountered them; he dislikes the more academic books from authors who have never left home. His favorite season is Winter. His likes mornings that are gray and with crisp air cool enough to need a sweater. He would prefer to spend such mornings in front of the window, or eating outside. Flying in cool weather like that gives him a rush. His favorite colors are green and black.
Interests && Hobbies: He is interested in social reform. He likes to play both sides of the debate but secretly he doesn't care about blood purity. He plays the flute and took violin lessons once upon a time. He is interested in the Arts, especially music and theater. He has an interest in acting and at his most comfortable he can be quite theatrical. He wants to be wealthy as an adult. He plays the flute, likes to fly, and is interested in playing Quidditch (especially as a Seeker). He likes to walk as a hobby and will take his broom to find someplace more isolated and away to simply go walking by himself.
Strengths: He is intellectual. He is good in potions but better in charms. He is loyal to his family.
Weaknesses: He likes his luxuries. He can sometimes be bribed. He will save his own skin first, as long as his family or someone he really loves is not in trouble.
Secrets: He is a half-blood. He refers to his mother as a squib when, truthfully, his mother is a Muggle with questionable psychic abilities. He explains his mother's "disgrace" as having filed for divorce when someone asks if she is a Muggle. He secretly favors equality among wizards, no matter what blood purity.
Boggart: A werewolf. His father would make up stories about werewolves when he was a boy to keep him from getting into trouble. "Werewolves eat little boys who misbehave, Theron. Are you going to misbehave?" Also, as he gets older, the curse of not being in control of oneself is terrifying.
Patronus: Eagle. The eagle is from his family crest and is his own personal totem.
Overall Personality: He prefers to be the power behind the throne but he is very pro-active and direct. He is a bit self-serving; he likes to be able to make a quick getaway. He is a free spirit who would love to go exploring the world but his complex relationships with others might keep him in Europe. He likes to keep a good distance from most people. He has his own set of rules in life that has developed from his own unique perspective--- he likes to experiment in many areas of his life. At worst, he could become too self-involved; at best, he is a person who pioneers changes and furthers new developments in society. He is noted for his intellect. He has an interest in philosophy and potions. He is a perfectionist with a critical mind. He has a mind for making maps, plans, and layouts. He is stubborn and he tends to think in patterns. He has difficulty breaking bad habits. He has a lazy streak; no matter how brilliant the mind he still finds some joy in escaping. He is concerned with making the world a better place and sometimes he only appears to be an escapist to others. The creation of a fantasy or a personal journey within--- these are things that appeal to him on a deep level, but not at the expense of creating a better world. He is uncomfortable with competition from others. He will compete when necessary, and he can be very serious about such things, but he usually tries to avoid it. Competition with himself is more his style. He is very interested in relationships and, in order to explore them, will make life choices that compromise his free-wheeling instincts. He has a strong appreciation for the Arts, especially music. His spells and charms tend to be said with a rhythm, almost like a song. He likes to be active. He loves flying, especially flying high and fast.
Past.
Parents && Siblings: Theron's mother, Kalina Meijer, is a Muggle psychic and his father, Ari Aieta Alessandri, is a pure-blood from Italy, divorced. His father's pure-blood ancestry can be traced all the way back to ancient Greece. His parents are well-off but the divorce divided their investments and lessened their luxuries, much to Theron's discomfort.
Character History:
Theron was born to a Muggle psychic mother and a pure-blood father.
Kalina Meijer. Kalina means "rowan tree" and is Bulgarian, she is named for her great-grandmother who was Bulgarian. It is from that side of the family that Kalina learned to love fire dancing, where dance barefoot into fires without suffering injury or pain. Meijer is a Dutch surname. It refers to a profession similar to a bailiff or steward. It originates from the Latin word maior. As of 2007, there were 39,801 people with the surname Meijer in the Netherlands. Kalina taught her son Dutch. Kalina was raised Catholic like most people who grew up in the southern parts of the Netherlands.
His parents divorced when he was eight years old. He is an only child. He lived with his mother for a year in Eemhaven, Rotterdam. He went to live with his father when he was about nine and he spends the holidays away from Hogwarts split between his father's place in the wizarding world of Italy (Aieta is a town and commune in the province of Cosenza in the Calabria region) and his mother's apartment in the Netherlands.
As a child he played magic with his father and watched as his father made flowers bloom for his mother. When his parent's divorced, as an eight year old, Theron escaped into books and fantasy, putting on his own elaborate plays for his own amusement. When he was nine his mother bought him a flute and a violin and his father paid for his lessons. He dropped violin lessons after six months and donated the violin to charity. The flute lessons he continued and his flute was one of the things he brought to Hogwarts.
Hallows.
Something Unique: His father was a Hufflepuff.
Role Playing Sample:
His black robes were trimmed by a ribbon of Slytherin green satin on each side. There had been black silk gloves as well but he'd forgotten them in the Slytherin common room. He folded up his best black cloak and placed it on the bench to save his seat as he wandered the hall. Fiddling and nit picking his clothing was one of his few nervous habits. Especially when he was wearing a silk tie that itched. He'd fought with the tie briefly before letting the charmed garment have its own way tying itself.
He kept the cane with the rest of his things on the table he was sharing with a few other Slytherins. It had scroll style staff made of blackthorn wood wrapped with black wrought iron. The handle was sterling silver with a black stone, obsidian probably, he thought. The handle was hollow with a compartment perfectly fitted to his flute. The ring around the staff was engraved with his initials TAA and the image of an eagle.
He had been surprised that the Alessandri family crest was engraved on it but he realized it was still important to be proud of where he came from. His father wanted the world to move on from blood purities and all of that outdated ridiculousness. From his father's point of view being from a pureblood family was no longer important, if it ever had been. It was one of the reasons the senior Alessandri had gone into business instead of buying himself a position in the Ministry as Theron's grandfather had done. Theron realized that his father wanted a new way, a new path for his son and subsequent generations, but one that did not involve being ashamed of the family roots. Theron rubbed his thumb over the obsidian stone as he examined the engraved eagle.
An unfocused flash of white across the room caught his eye. He glanced up and quickly slid his eyes away. It was no good for a Slytherin pretending to be a pure blood to be caught paying too much attention to a muggle born---the word mudblood crossed in the background of his mind. It would be bad for both of them. He could see where it would lead: Some Slytherin would notice him noticing her and she'd end up being the focus of unkind scrutiny. The way she hid in plain sight and moved slowly from one place to another without catching anyone's attention suggested to Theron that she knew she did not want to be the subject of Slytherin attention.
He knew the girl, Caitlin McNamara, had needed a tutor for potions and the professor had amused himself by volunteering Theron for the job. Theron was good in potions. It didn't make a difference to him what her family tree looked like but that wasn't something he wanted the rest of his Slytherin "comrades" to know. He had noticed in that sliding glance that her hair hung in pleasant waves today. It was usually not quite wavy, not quite anything.
He had noticed her when he'd been helping her with potions work, with only the less than interested professor in the background. He hadn't had much choice at the time. He didn't have to look at her now to remember her face clearly. If he had not been who and what he was it was her eyes that might have caught his attention. Her eyes were gray with cool blue tones that picked up any blue in the room and reflected it back at the him. It often seemed as if her eyes had been touched by blue lightning in a gray storm. When she was tired they shined like crystal shards gleaming over ice.
"Terry," Caitlin's voice came from behind him, a low whisper, "I'm going to wander around on my own, away from the crowd."
"Yes," he said, without turning around.
Caitlin hesitated behind him. Theron could feel it.
She left as quietly as she had come.
