May 14, 2008 - A popular supporting character in the Harry Potter series has reportedly been cut from the forthcoming screen adaptation of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

Cinematical discovered a report at the Potter fansite Snitch Seeker that says the character of Moaning Myrtle will not appear -- or should that be materialize? -- in Half-Blood Prince.

Snitch Seeker contacted reps for Myrtle actress Shirley Henderson at the Hamilton Hodell agency who confirmed the news. "I'm sorry to report that Moaning Myrtle has not made it into the latest film," the agency informed the site.

As Ace Showbiz points out, the character of Myrtle in Half-Blood Prince "serves to be Draco Malfoy's confidante. At one point, she even soothes the sobbing Malfoy who takes refuge at the second floor girl's bathroom. When Harry performed the Sectumsempra spell on Malfoy after finding him hiding at the bathroom, Myrtle becomes the one who spreads the evil deed throughout the school."

wow, they're just begging to lose money on this one. I have a feeling that it won't stop the majority of the moronic public from wanting to see the darn thing though. as sad as it is a TON of people always turn up for the hp movies even if they are bad ... I guess it's just the whole premise of it being a 'harry potter' thing that gets them going x.x ; I'm already hating the sound of this whole thing.

The only reason the HP movies seem bad to us is because we've read the books. Comparatively, the movies suck, but taken objectively on their own as movies? The only one that completely sucks in that regard is the third one. Other than that, as movies go they are actually very good.

And it doesn't surprise me that they cut Myrtle/Draco. After all, they cut out Quidditch and Harry beating up Malfoy, and they cut Lily from Snape's memory.

I'm still gonna watch it when it comes out on DVD, unless my friends decide to go to the premier again. 'Cause the movies themselves are good, even though it's hard not to compare them to the books.
